Your Dream Campers

That's us! That's where you are reading this article now. The team here loves camper vans, so we created this site to help other passionate people buy and sell campervans. We aim to become the number one resource for people wanting to sell a campervan, motorhome, or caravan. We built a lovely modern website that is easy for people to use without all the clutter you see on other sites.

Pros

  • Different advertising Packages for private and trade customers
  • The ability to create custom packages for trade customers based on their needs
  • Great customer support. As we are smaller than many of our rivals, we can focus on you to help create a great listing and give you the personal touch
  • The website is dedicated only to campervans, motorhomes, and caravans, and it aims to help you find your perfect leisure vehicle
  • An easy 4-step process to create your listings that only take a few minutes

Cons

  • Not as big as other platforms
  • Charges a listing fee

Auto Trader

Auto Trader needs no introduction. It's probably one of the most recognisable brands in the UK and is often one of, if not the first place, people think of when buying and selling a campervan or any vehicle.

Pros

  • This probably has the biggest audience out of all the platforms on here
  • It's well respected and gives buyers confidence
  • Great search filters so you can narrow down your search

Cons

  • Listing Fees - Because it is such a big platform, it can charge the highest fees
  • There is a real mix of private sellers and dealers using the platform, so there are some nice listings, so it might be harder for you to stand out
  • Due to how popular it is, there will be more listings

Facebook Groups

If you search for “sell my campervan” or “sell my motorhome” on Facebook, there are many groups, some better than others. Over the years, we have found help from many useful people here, but we have also had so many people wasting our time.

In our opinion, the groups are probably better than the “marketplace”, as this is full of scammers, and we don't understand how Facebook hasn't managed to get a grip on this.

Pros

  • The audience here is highly engaged
  • It's free! That's what makes it so popular
  • Messaging other users is easy; everyone has Facebook on their phones nowadays

Cons

  • Your reach only goes as far as the Facebook group, which isn't indexed by search engines
  • Scammers - this is the BIGGEST issue that puts people off. Make sure you do your due diligence
  • All the transactions are done on trust and are handled privately between you and the buyer

eBay

After Auto Trader, eBay Motors is the 2nd biggest platform for selling used vehicles online.

Pros

  • You can list a campervan for sale as an auction on this platform, which isn't possible on other platforms. If people get into a bidding war, this can result in a higher price
  • eBay has buyer protection, which can give you more security
  • eBay is a massive platform, so you will get exposure across the UK and even abroad

Cons

  • Their listing fees are high. They charge you to list the item and take a cut at the end
  • There's always a risk of scammers on eBay
  • Someone could win the auction and then decide that they don't want it, which means you have to relist it

Gumtree

Gumtree is similar to Craigslist in America. It's a platform where you can list campervans for free, but it's not quite as well known as other platforms.

Pros

  • It's free to list, and they don't take a penny if your item sells
  • Gumtree is focused more on local items

Cons

  • With a free listing site, there's always a chance of scams, so do your due diligence
  • There is no buyer protection

Put a Phone Number In Your Camper Van

This is how people used to sell cars and camper vans back in the day. There is a patch of land next to some traffic lights near me, and there's always a car for sale parked there that piques my interest.

Pros

  • It may make some people want to call the number to find out more
  • It's free!
  • It attracts local people, which means it's not opened up to as many people trying to waste your time

Cons

  • The reach is limited to local people who see the number in your camper van
  • There is not as much detailed information as they can see online. The potential buyer can't see how many miles are on it or what extra options it has
  • People might not want to display their number on a campervan because of privacy concerns

Tips For Selling Your Camper Van

1. Take Plenty of Pictures

There is nothing worse than seeing a listing for a camper van, getting all excited that it's the perfect one for you, clicking on the advert, and then realising it only has one picture. Take at least 10 pictures of all different angles. Show the inside, show the engine, and take a picture of the mileage. Show it off.

2. Have Your Campervan Valeted

This is a real pet peeve of ours at YourDreamCampers. If you are going to sell your campervan, then make sure it's clean. If you don't have the time, plenty of hand car washes locally will do it for £30. You will easily make that back on the sale as your van will be much more appealing to buyers.

3. Price Research

You need to look at what similar vans to yours are being listed for. Auto Trader is probably the best place to do this as it will have the most camper vans. Everyone thinks their van is worth more than it is, as it's your pride of joy, but you may have to list it a bit lower than you expect.

4. Timing

If you are wondering when the best time to sell a campervan is, it's most definitely the summer. This is when everyone wants to be out and about and making the most of the British summer (we have to make the most of the limited summer we get).
